Larice is one of the protagonists in Mother: Cognitive Dissonance. Though originally meant to be deactivated, he escaped and joined the Applechasers at Niiue's request.
Biography[]
After defecting from the other Starmen to avoid deactivation, he joins the Applechasers at Niiue's orders. He seems to genuinely care about Giegue's well-being, as indicated by Larice's Magicant and takes up the fight against Giegue in order to stop the latter's transformation into Giygas.
It is revealed in a computer on Mars that Larice is in fact a Martian, but years ago, he and his entire species got invaded by Giegue's army. They were allowed to live with the condition to have their bodies modified, which gave rise to the Starmen. As a bionic being, Larice is able to cast PSI thanks to his organic parts inside his robotic body.
Larice got controlled by The Greyface at Mars after he reprogrammed him, forcing him to deliver the slices of the Apple of Enlightment that The Applechasers currently had to Giegue, and forcing him to fight his friends. At the end of the fight, he goes unconscious before being recovered by Niiue, who works to repair his body. Later on, Larice's new appearance is now a mix between a Starman Deluxe and a Ghost of Starman. He returns to the team at the end of Chapter 6.
Larice is overall good-natured, and is described as "gentle" by the Shambler novelist on Pluto. He has a taste for oil, holds the highest score in GemThieves, and likes clicking and beeping. He's terrible at driving spaceships and doesn't seem to have any musical talent, but still enjoys being a part of Nowheretrain's performances.

- Protect: Begins with this move, puts Protect status on everyone but himself.
- Recall: Learns this move upon finding the Auto-Tele 9000 near the Anolin Base, instantly teleports party to the Nowhere Train. [Can only be used outside of battle, can't be used at certain times]
- Sleep Mode: Installable item found on the Mothership in Chapter 2; restores 100 HP but prevents Larice from acting for two turns.
- Berserker Mode: Learned when using a Knowledge Stone. Increases Larice's strength but prevents free action, making them only able to attack.
Status Resistances[]
Being a Starman has its perks, even if it means you can't heal from eating food. Larice is immune to Poison, Numb, Sleep, Coughing, and Tipsy. He somewhat resists Strange and Dumb, as well.
In Battle[]
At the end of the underground Cydonia caverns, Larice becomes forcibly reprogrammed by Greyface to attack the party. As a boss, he's more or less harmless: he can do a few basic attacks but will mostly waste turns beeping and fizzling. You can't kill him, so just wait until he passes out and the battle ends.

Trivia[]
- Larice is one of three party members capable of OHKOs. The other two are Col. Saturn and Niiue.
- Additionally, both Larice and Niiue have the same PSI move to cause a OHKO, being PK Beam Σ.
- When fighting Larice, Zarbol's Scan data shows the HP of Larice, which is actually the HP when he's a party member. (But he's tough, you can't actually kill him.)
- Larice is extremely vulnerable to the Berserk status, even though vulnerability to this status doesn't matter due to how status-inflicting equipment works. However, he slightly resists Strange.
- Larice's favorite music is Forgotten Warriors. After you play it at the spaceship, he stands still, he is silent at first and later says that "today, the memory of Mars is alive".
- Larice is the only main party member that is fought as an enemy.
- Larice plays the party role equivalent of Ana from MOTHER, focusing heavily on PSI-based offense. However, Larice also serves as the "Tank" of the party. Sporting a high HP pool and a built in Protection/Healing ability, which is completely the opposite of Ana or Paula who are both fragile.
- In addition, Ana can be seen in Larice's Magicant, in an area only accessible by the Flashporter/Experimental Engine. If the Starman attempts to speak to her, she fades away.
